Biff W. Doughty, 53, of Georgetown, passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2012. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 11, 2012 at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel, 393 North IH35, Georgetown, from 6:00PM to 8:00PM. A service celebrating Biff’s life and his faith will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 2:00PM at First United Methodist Church, 410 East University Avenue, Georgetown, TX.
Biff was born January 17, 1959, in Tucson, Arizona to Bruce and Shirley (Wells) Doughty. Biff spent most of his life in Arizona, graduating from Bisbee High School where he was a part of the marching band, playing the Alto Saxophone, and numerous sports teams. Biff attended Arizona State University and went on to graduate from the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service serving as a licensed professional for more than 30 years. He worked for A.L. Moore Grimshaw in Phoenix, Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple and most recently served as the Operations Manager for The Gabriels Funeral Chapel in Georgetown. Biff touched the lives of many people throughout his career as a Funeral Director, comforting them through the hardest times in their lives. He had a gift to serving others and helping them memorialize their loved ones. Biff moved to Texas in 2001. He married Karen Hope on October 27, 2001 in Georgetown, TX at the Grace Episcopal Chapel. Biff was an active member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, serving as Stephen Minister Leader and a Prayer Partner. He sang in the Men's choir, and was a lay speaker. Biff was active in many communities; serving as a Mason and recently as president of the board at Handcrafts Unlimited in Georgetown, TX. He played a crucial role in organizing and developing the community emergency response team (CERT) in Temple, TX. Biff had a photographic memory; he could read an article and record the information in his mind unlike anyone else. His wit and funny sense of humor will truly be missed. Biff was preceded in death by his father, Bruce Doughty; his grandparents, and a brother, Cameron Doughty. Biff leaves behind his wife, Karen Doughty of Georgetown; his mother, Shirley Ann Doughty of Bisbee, AZ; brother, Dana Doughty of AZ; his step-daughter Laura Benner and her husband, Robert of Portsmouth, Virginia, his grandson, Derek Benner; his mother-in-law, Marjorie Holder; along with a host of other loving friends.
